May 2026 Sees Bollywood Revenues Halve—Pati Patni Aur Woh Do Tops a Slow Month
The curtain has fallen on May 2026’s movie season, and the numbers tell a stark story: Bollywood’s monthly collections nearly halved compared to April. While holdover hits continued to chug along, fresh releases failed to ignite the box office, leaving trade pundits and studio chiefs scrambling for answers.
Holdover Hits Cushion the Blow
Even as new titles underperformed, two biggies carried May’s tally on their shoulders. Akshay Kumar’s horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla chipped in a solid ₹52.4 cr net between its 15th and 45th days in theatres. Meanwhile, Dhurandhar 2—still riding high from its initial surge—added another ₹14.72 cr net from day 43 to day 74. Together, these carryovers accounted for more than half of May’s total haul.
Fresh Releases Struggle to Make an Impact
Despite star power and high-octane promos, none of May’s new Bollywood offerings crossed the success threshold. Here’s how they fared:
- Ek Din (Junaid Khan, Sai Pallavi): ₹4.3 cr net
- Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart (Siddharth Gupta): ₹35.35 cr net
- Daadi Ki Shaadi (Neetu Kapoor, Kapil Sharma): ₹7.45 cr net
- Aakhri Sawal (Sanjay Dutt): ₹2.92 cr net
- Pati Patni Aur Woh Do (Ayushmann Khurrana): ₹54.46 cr net
- Chand Mera Dil (Lakshya, Ananya Panday): ₹26.26 cr net
- The Great Grand Superhero (Jackie Shroff): ₹1.25 cr net
Although Pati Patni Aur Woh Do led the new releases, its ₹54.46 cr collection fell short of blockbuster status, illustrating the wider lull.
April vs. May: A Steep Decline
April’s box office posted ₹396.53 cr net, buoyed by Dhurandhar 2 and Bhooth Bangla’s strong runs. By contrast, May managed just ₹199.11 cr net—a jaw-dropping 49.8% plunge within a single month.
What to Expect in June
Industry insiders are betting on June’s line-up—anchored by Shahid Kapoor’s Cocktail 2 and Welcome To The Jungle—to reverse the slump. With fresh content and festive releases on the horizon, Bollywood hopes the next chapter will deliver the bounce-back it desperately needs.
